UK – Construction contractors working on refurbishment sites in Sunderland and Durham have been told they should do more to ensure the safety of employees during random spot checks by the Health and Safety Executive.

TWO companies are facing fines for health and safety breaches after two workers were seriously injured.
A St Albans based company was working in Oving, near Whitchurch, when two men fell through a roof suffering from a number of injuries.

HSE is warning the waste industry to ensure that adequate precautions are taken to prevent injuries caused by reversing waste and recycling collection vehicles. Warning follows HSE’s prosecution of Coventry City Council after an 11-year old girl was killed.

A potato processing firm has been fined £12,000 over a breach of health and safety regulations. The offence was admitted at Duns Sheriff Court by Scottish Borders company Greenvale AP Ltd of Chirnside.
